09月09日：On second thought, let's not go to a movie.我又想了下，我们还是别去看电影了。

second thought：重新考虑后，进一步考虑后
例如：On second thought, let's have Chinese food tonight.（经重新考虑后，我们今晚还是吃中国莱吧？）
          On second thought, she rejected his marriage proposal to finish college.（经过再次考虑之后，她拒绝了他的求婚，打算完成大学学业。）

09月10日：He is capable of anything if it furthers his ambition.凡是能助他实现野心的事他都会做。

capable of：能够，可以，做得出
例如：Susan is capable of hard work.（苏珊能胜任艰苦的工作。）
          She is capable of judging works of art.（她有鉴赏艺术品的能力。）

09月11日：Teaching is an honorable profession.教师是崇高的职业。

1.honorable： adj. 光荣的，高尚的
例如：He was honorable in word and in deed.（他言行诚信可敬。）
         My father was the mayor of the village and an honorable man.（我父亲是当地的村长，是个受人尊敬的人。）

09月12日：Public spending continues to rise at a steady pace.公共开支继续稳步增长。

1.at a steady pace：以稳定的步调
例如：He works at a steady pace.（他以一个很稳定的速度去工作。）
          We drove along admiring the view; the horse trotted along at a steady pace.（我们向前开着车欣赏风景；这匹马以稳定的步伐向前小跑。）

09月13日：I think we can draw up a tentative plan now.我认为现在可以先草拟一具临时方案。

ive：adj. 试探性的，临时的；踌躇的，犹豫不定的
例如：First meetings always involve this tentative kind of exploration.（最初几次会晤总是要作一番临时的探讨。）
          Each step he took was slightly tentative.（他每走一步都有些迟疑不决。） 

09月14日：Lookers-on see most of the game.当局者迷，旁观者清。

-on：旁观者
例如：God has waited six thousand years for a looker-on to his work.（上帝足足等待了6000年，让一个旁观者去见证他的业绩。）
          They conduct as a looker-on , passing by and then forgetting.（他们只是充当一个旁观者，从旁经过，之后将之遗忘。）

09月15日：I cannot express how glad I am to hear from him.我无法表达我接到他的信时有多高兴。

例如：I hope to hear from you before long.（我希望不久就能收到你的信。）
          I'm really happy to hear from you.（我真的很高兴接到你的电话。）
