12月31日：I couldn't get a grip on what was going on.我无法理解正在发生的事情。       

a grip on：控制，掌握
例如：If you don't get a grip on yourself you will go mad.（ 如果你不控制自己的情绪，你会疯的。）
          Is it difficult to get a grip on the new technology?（掌握新技术难吗？）

01月01日：What's the idea of all this?你做这一切到底怎么想的？

例如：Have you any idea of what he is up to?（你知道他想干什么吗? ）
          That at least is my idea about friendship.（至少那是我对友谊的理解。）

01月02日：Science can penetrate many of nature's mysteries.科学能解释自然界的许多奥秘。

例如：The nail will not penetrate.（这枚钉子钉不进去。）

          She's dropped most of her old friends.（ 她已与多数老朋友停止了来往。）

1. closed book：一无所知的东西
例如：The man's early life is a closed book.（ 那人的早年生活是个不可告人的谜。）
          Fishing is a closed book to me.（ 我对钓鱼是一窍不通。）

01月06日：His car is off the road now.他的车坏了。      

the road：不在公路上行驶的
例如：Her car ran off the road and hit a tree.（她的车离开马路，撞在一棵树上。）
          The car skidded off the road.（汽车滑出路面。）
